Lotus Counselling – Supporting you to navigate unhealthy relationships
Like the lotus that rises from a muddy pond and blooms in the sunlight, you are not defined by the toxic relationships that have come into your life. At Lotus Counselling, you will get support to heal from emotional abuse and reclaim your inner strength.
Any kind of toxic relationship can significantly impact your mental well-being. It can leave you second-guessing yourself, feeling unworthy, isolated and under constant stress. You don’t have to face this alone. At Lotus Counselling, you will find a supportive and non-judgemental space to unpack these experiences, recognize the hidden impacts, rebuild your confidence, foster healthy relationships and lead a meaningful life.

About Me
I’m a qualified counsellor with a Master’s degree in Guidance and Counselling and a registered member of BACP. I have provided counselling services in a variety of professional settings – including a university, a counselling centre working mainly with families and young people, and a non-profit that supports vulnerable communities. In these roles, I observed how unhealthy relationships can impact our mental well-being, and that leaving those relationships is not always possible or straightforward. I have also seen how adults struggle to make sense of their ties to their parents, carrying conflicted feelings from childhood into their adulthood, which prevents them from leading a meaningful and emotionally healthy life in the present.
Today I run Lotus Counselling – a private practice dedicated to supporting people to make sense of unhealthy relationships, especially those navigating complex parental bonds. I also help share my knowledge by teaching counselling at a local college.
Our services

Parental Relationships
It can feel confusing and painful to realise how your parents’ caregiving and disciplinary approaches in childhood have influenced your sense of self, perception of the world, and behavioural patterns.
Together, we will explore how these early patterns shaped your self-image, trust in others, relational style, and coping strategies. We will unpack the conflicting thoughts and emotions you may have about your parents. No matter what level of contact you choose to maintain with your parents – either no contact, low contact, or a transformed healthy relationship, you will get support to develop healthy communication strategies and boundary so that you can assert your needs, manage expectations, and protect your well-being in the future interactions.

Intimate Relationships
Emotional abuse – through manipulation, gaslighting, isolation, silent treatment or other forms of passive aggression- can leave you doubting your reality and second-guessing your worth.
At Lotus Counselling, you will get support to spot these patterns and understand their impact on your mental health. It is not easy to leave a toxic intimate relationship due to societal stigma, financial dependence, co-parenting responsibilities and emotional bonds. Regardless of the path you choose, you will receive non-judgemental guidance to protect yourself, build a strong support system, develop healthy boundaries and coping strategies in order to reclaim your autonomy.

Workplace Relationships
Since work occupies a significant portion of our lives, a toxic relationship in this environment can deeply affect your everyday mood and lead to lasting mental health challenges. Quitting is not always an option when financial responsibility, passion for your work or professional goals are at stake.
At Lotus Counselling, we will work together to identify unhealthy dynamics from your boss or colleagues, practice professional boundary setting, and boost your assertiveness so that you can maintain your role at work while protecting your mental wellbeing.

Friendships
A friend is meant to be supportive, but if one enters your life with malicious intention or when they prioritise their own needs without recognising you as a true friend, they can make you feel guilty, unworthy, and struggling with low self-esteem.
At Lotus Counselling, we will work together to explore the signs of unhealthy relationships and how you might have ignored these signs due to your compassion. You will get guidance to enforce healthy boundaries with friends and gain confidence in asserting yourself. The ultimate goal is for you to develop nourishing and healthy friendship that will be your healthy support system.

Self-esteem and unhealthy relationship patterns
Low self-esteem can undermine every part of your emotional life. It creates a persistent sense of unworthiness that makes challenges feel overwhelming, weakens your confidence, and drains your motivation. When you doubt yourself, you may tolerate unhealthy relationships, struggle to set boundaries, and live without a clear sense of direction.
At Lotus Counselling, you will be in a warm and non-judgemental space where we gently uncover the experiences and beliefs that have contributed to your sense of low self-esteem. Over time, you will get support and guidance to develop your resilience, trust your worth, as well as foster healthier and more fulfilling relationships.
